Description

This elegant Yves Saint Laurent runway documented midi dress is from the spring 1975 collection and was a key design, featuring in both a cream and black version on the runway. Made in France, it is crafted from matte moss crepe in rich cream. The label reads “Saint Laurent Rive Gauche”, a reference to Paris’s younger and trendier left bank. Cut to a relaxed, tunic style, it falls to below the knee with an easy grace. The collarless neckline reveals the collarbones in a wide yoke style and the long sleeves have puff-shoulders and gather at the button cuffs. This soft pleating continues across the décolletage. The loose laid-back shape can be cinched with the soft, coordinating belt that is attached with belt loops at the rear. There are hidden in-seam pockets at the hips, adding to the casually luxurious feel of this piece.

This highly wearable dress is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. It has no composition label although moss crepe is typically made from 100% polyester. It's a medium-to-heavy weight fabric known for its beautiful drape and soft touch. Labelled a size French 36 this equates to a UK 8 or US 4. It's on the generous side with the fabric allowing a bit of flexibility on the measurements below.
