F/W 1995 Vivienne Westwood Runway Gold Black Jacquard Shirt
Description
This decadent shirt was designed by Vivienne Westwood for her F/W 1995 Vive La Cocotte collection - one of the most iconic shows of her career. Staged at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, the show reflected Westwood's interest in 18th century French fashions and culture - particularly evident in this collection.
This well documented shirt is an early Gold Label item which Westwood starting using to denote her demi couture and runway collections from Fall 1993. It is tailored from a decadent black and gold floral jacquard with leg o’mutton sleeves and slim cuffs trimmed with black lace. The body showcases the deconstructed silhouette that is a brand signature; tightly fitted, it is cut longer at the front than the back. The front is tailored to form a ruffle that cascades down the front. Trimmed with black lace, there are multiple buttons - one embossed with the brand’s Orb logo and eight circular black plastic buttons curving along the front. The shirt is unlined.
In excellent archival vintage condition with no flaws of any note. The composition label is faded but states that it is a mix of Acetate, Viscose, Polyamide, Lycra and Elastane. Made in England before manufacturing shifted to Italy towards the end of the decade. Westwood sizing is notoriously small and although labeled a UK 12, this will fit a UK 8 or US 4 and below. The fabric has no stretch.
