1960s Gino Charles Cream Silk Beaded Dress
Description
This playful, knee-length shift dress is by Gino Charles, a company founded in 1966 by well regarded American designers Teal 'Gino' Traina and Malcolm Charles Starr. Tailored from rich cream raw silk, it is adorned in a geometric pattern across the top of the front and rear of the bodice. The striking combination is made up of silver and sheer iridescent sequins, white bugle beads, and polished and faceted white, turquoise and orange plastic beads. The beadwork forms an inverted V-shape along the under bust / high waist. The dress has front pockets hidden in the princess seams and is fully lined in cotton sateen. Secured at the back with a concealed tonal zip and single hook-and-eye clasp.
The label reads “Gino Charles REG’D. T.M.” which indicates that this piece was created in the late 60s and is an early design from this collectible label. Made in Hong Kong, an area renowned at the time for the quality of its bead and sequin work. This dress is in very good to excellent vintage condition overall; one or two beads and sequin loss noticed and some faint creasing to the silk - very minor in nature. Suggested best fit for a UK 10 or US 6. Our model (5ft 11 in / 180 cm) is a UK 8-10 and this dress fit her well
