Description

Malcolm Starr made hugely popular evening dresses throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Simple shapes, such as shift-dresses, empire line cuts and sculptural forms, were his signature, often finished with flamboyant detailing. This mini-dress is tailored to a classic ‘60s mod silhouette from panels of geometric jacquard woven with glistening silver lurex thread. The wide boat neckline reveals the collarbones and adds an elegance typical of this era. Above the bust and across the short sleeves delicate beading abounds; chunky circular diamantes, tiny white beads and silver sequins form leaves on vines of silver thread which snake up the décolletage.

The jacquard fabric is backed in white cotton for structure and the dress is lined in white satin viscose/acetate. With hidden patch pockets located on the front princess seams, the dress is secured with a hidden, tonal zip along the back. In excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note and would make a great choice for bridal wear or a glittering evening social. Labelled a US vintage 10, it is better suited in modern sizing to a UK 10 or US 6. Our model (5ft 11in /180cm) is a UK 8-10 and this dress was a good fit on her.
