Description

This elegant Christian Dior evening dress was retailed in their London branch during the late 1960s and may have been a special order from Paris. Designed when Marc Bohan was creative director, he is remembered for his clean, A-line silhouettes and remarkable 30 year tenure at the House. The dress is short-sleeved and cut from matte silk crepe de chine fabric with monochrome sequin embellishment across the entire gown. From the empire line of the bust, the dress is tailored from black matte silk which is topped with black mesh smothered in uniform rows of high-shine black sequins. From below the bust, the dress is adorned with slightly off-white sequins, sewn into white mesh atop white silk. The sweeping ankle length design fastens at the rear of the neck with a central, tonal hidden zip. There is a modesty strap inside which secures the bust. The original label reads “Made in England by Christian Dior Ltd London” and is numbered “B1159”.

This piece is in excellent archival vintage condition with no issues of any note. We have found no evidence of significant alterations adn she is very fresh looking. Our couture seamstress has replaced all sequin gaps with originals found in the seams. Full length and wearable evening gowns by Dior, from this era, are increasingly rare to market. Due to its age, it has no size or composition label and the dress comes up smaller than the measurements suggest. We believe it will work on sizes up to a UK 8 or US 4. The fabric has no stretch.
