Description

This playful party two-piece was designed by iconic British brand Katharine Hamnett for her Spring 1996 collection. The designer, Katharine E. Hamnett, founded her namesake label in 1979 and was a founding design member of the British Fashion Council when it began in 1984. Taking its lead from disco dresses of the 1970s, this charismatic top and skirt are smothered in row-upon-row of pewter sequins which catch the light as the wearer moves. Tailored to a sleeveless tank top shape, the top is paired with a super short, high-waisted mini-skirt. The top fastens at the back of the neck sequin-covered button which sits atop a keyhole opening. The skirt fastens at the back of the waist with a hidden tonal zip, snap closure and hook-and-eye clasp. Both pieces are lined in charcoal grey silk crepe. The top comes with a spare sequin-covered button sewn inside.

This was one of Hamnett's most renowned collections during the 1990s and this design was featured in several colour ways on the runway and with different skirt lengths. Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition with no discernible flaws. The set is labelled a size Small so please double-check our measurements below as the fabric has no stretch. We estimate this would be a good fit for up to a UK 8-10 or US 4-6 with a smaller waist. It would also suit sizes smaller.
