1987 Saint Laurent Runway Black Crinkle Dress with Taffeta Ruffles
Description
This well documented dress was part of Yves Saint Laurent’s much sought after Spring 1987 collection, when Yves himself was still at the helm of his eponymous fashion house. The fabric is stunning with its innovative, crinkled texture that is oh-so-’80s. The body has a relaxed fit, falling straight in a column style to the bottom hem. The hem, cuffs and wide-neckline are trimmed with wide ruffles. Made of black taffeta, they hold their shape and add drama to the silhouette. The sleeves are cut to a three-quarter length, perfect for showing-off the wrists or stacked bracelets. The wide neckline adds sensuous detail, as does the thigh-high slit in the skirt, christened at the top with a large taffeta bow. This flamboyant dress is unlined. It fastens with a hidden tonal zip under the left arm. A great choice for an elegant evening event and can be well accessorised - the runway showed this belted.
Made in France, the dress is in excellent vintage condition with no issues. There are no size or composition labels remaining and the dress has a bit of leeway on the below measurements. A good fit for around a UK 12, US 8 with some latitude for a size bigger.
