1920s Pale Chartreuse Green and Cream Silk Dress
Description
This elegant and antique, couture made dress dates back to the early 1920s. Tailored from matte silk in pale chartreuse green, it is cut to a loose, column silhouette typical of the flapper era. It is composed of an under-dress with pleated skirt and a V-neck, longer tunic-style top that sits over the dress. The top is detailed with pleats at the shoulders and cream fabric-backed cut-outs around the collar and down the front. The intricate and emblematic diamond design in mint-green embroidery, is hand stitched. The classically 1920s, drop-waist tailoring is highlighted by a cream fabric belt at the hips which is threaded through the side belt loops. The bodice is lined in a high quality white silk in a vest style for comfort.
A great example of summer day wear and an increasingly rare survivor from this era, the dress is presented in excellent vintage condition and can be worn with care. We noted some very faint, pin-sized age marks to the lower section of the skirt and a few faint droplets; neither are noticeable when worn. We have fused the silk lining on the décolleté in one area which has preserved and strengthened the dress, this is also unseen when worn. Unlabelled but a very well made couture dress, we estimate the piece would fit sizes up to a UK 10 or US 6. Our model 6-8 and 5ft 4in. (163cm) and this dress was slightly roomy on her.
