1930s Monochrome Chevron Pattern Tulle Dress
Description
An unusual and original 1930s tulle black and white dress which reminds me of the work of Gabriel Chanel and the great American designer Elizabeth Hawes. We have referenced Chanel's 1936 design here. This dress is unlabelled although American made and despite extensive research, I have been unable to ascertain who designed this. With a bateau neckline, the monochrome banding is horizontal on the bodice and has a chevron appearance on the skirt element due in part to the mitred seams. The triangle panelled sections span out from the vertical centre seam of the dress giving it a long A-line look with amazing flare and movement when worn. It is finished at the hem with two monochrome coloured ruffles - the white ruffle overlays the black. The dress fastens to the side with the original popper fastenings. This piece almost certainly had a under dress but looks fantastic on its own or could be paired with modern undergarments. In excellent vintage condition considering its age. There are no holes in the lace or faults of any note and overall it is very robust and wearable. It is suitable for up to UK size 8-10 or US 4-6. Our model is a UK 6-8 and has size UK 10 shoulders.
