Description

This beautifully made 'oatmeal' hued dress suit was designed in the 1960s and is of complex construction. Composed of a sleeveless dress and lightweight coordinating jacket, it is crafted from a high quality silk blend which has been textured to give the appearance of shot-silk. The dress has a shift cut; an effortlessly chic, fluid silhouette with a very slight nipped-in waist and pencil skirt. The fabric on the jacket and at the top of the dress is detailed with geometric shapes formed by pleating the cloth and embroidering it with tonal thread. These pleated stripes and embroidered zig-zags form alternating panels. Both the jacket and dress are lined with nude silk. The dress is secured at the back of the neck with a hidden tonal zip and hook-and-eye clasp.

The jacket is cut straight in the body and hangs elegantly open to reveal the dress underneath. Five fabric-covered buttons and two hook-and-eye clasps give the option of wearing it closed. The sleeves are cropped and it has a graceful raised collar.

These pieces are both in excellent vintage condition with no issues on any note. and look great worn as separates. The suit is incredibly well designed and manufactured, almost certainly in the USA, but without any labels. The fabric has no stretch and is best suited to sizes UK 10 or US 6.
