1960s Black and Red Polka Dot Demi Couture Dress and Jacket With Chiffon Bodice

This incredible 1960s red and black polka dot American demi-couture ensemble is in beautiful vintage condition and of excellent quality; however, is unlabelled and so the designer remains unknown. The set is comprised of a dress and jacket in chiffon and silk taffeta jacquard and has some lovely design features. The bodice of the dress is overlain in sheer black chiffon embellished at the front with metallic red polka dots framed in black rocaille beads. There is a round neckline, long bishop style sleeves which tie at the wrist, a fine ribbon peplum at the waist and an open slit at the centre reverse which secures with a hook and eye at the nape of the neck. The taffeta camisole style underlay is visible below the chiffon and has a straight cut neckline and spaghetti straps, with a central zip fastening at the reverse. The A line, calf length skirt is gathered at the waist and is of stiff jacquard fabric in back with red metallic dots lined in cotton. The cropped jacket is made with matching fabric to the skirt and designed to be worn open. It has a round neckline, a feminine lift in the shoulders and three quarter length sleeves and is lined in black. This charming set can be worn together or as separates and has a classic, timeless appeal. Would best suit a US size 2, UK size 6.
