1960s French Couture Floral Gold Brocade Dress Ensemble

This early 1960s two-piece French couture ensemble is composed of a strappy gold dress and a sleeveless top which sits over it. Tailored from glistening brocade; a soft blush pink fabric detailed with large roses in metallic gold thread. The dress has a nipped in waist and A-line skirt with falls stiffly to the knees or just below. The straps of the dress are tailored from the same fabric, as are the three pretty, flat bows which adorn the front. The front of the skirt is detailed with one pleat which sits in the middle. The top is tailored from coordinating fabric. It has a high neckline at the front and a lower, scoop neckline at the rear. Detailed with the same bows as the dress, this time sitting atop the shoulders. The top fastens with a hidden zip and hook-and-eye clasp at the rear. Both the dress and top are lined with cream silk satin for a comfortable wear.

This ensemble is in very good to excellent vintage condition and very wearable with care. We noted a few minor frays here and there to the metallic thread on both pieces and some very well repaired fabric separation. The top has also been carefully let out on the side seams but it has been done so well you can only tell from the inside where this is also a few light markings on the silk. All of these issues are very minor in nature. The dress is unlabelled and of excellent quality but please check the measurements below as the fabric has no stretch. We estimate a best fit for sizes UK 6-8 or US 2-4.
