Description

This documented elegant column dress was designed in the early 1970s by Loris Azzaro, whose simple and elegant lines came to epitomise the high end occasion wear of the era. His designs were worn by Marisa Berenson, Jane Birkin (pictured here), Tina Turner, Brigitte Bardot and Romy Schneider among others.

This inky black jersey dress is smothered in long black tassels which echo the wearer’s movements. Falling to the floor, it is tailored in a straight column-style and has a scoop neck to show off the décolletage. The narrow sleeves are also finished with tassels, creating a sense of movement the whole length of the body. The dress fastens at the rear with a hidden tonal zip and hook-and-eye clasp. The original label reads “Loris Azzaro Paris”. This piece is identical to the Azzaro gown worn by iconic French model Jane Birkin in a photoshoot circa 1971, with her husband Serge Gainsbourg where she wore a white version.

This dress is in excellent vintage condition with no observable stains or flaws. Due to its age, it has no size or composition label. The fabric has some stretch and allows for 1cm of flexibility on the measurements below. Our model is a UK 8-10 and 5ft 11in (180cm) and this dress fit her well.
