Description
1970s Janice Wainwright Pink and Gold 1920s Style Flapper Dress. This is a wonderful example of Janice Wainwright's early work which is highly sort after by collectors and museums alike. She founded her own company in 1970 after working for Simon Massey and freelancing during the 1960s. This dress dates from around 1974 when the film The Great Gatsby was released starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. The Oscar winning costumes influenced an art deco revival in the prevailing fashions of the mid 1970s.

The dress is constructed from a dusky pink and greeny gold coloured fine woven ribbon silk and tulle with a floral patterned lace bodice. The straight cut of the dress with no defined waist and low slung skirt emulates the 1920s flapper era. The sleeves are a dolman style. Under this exterior, the dress is lined in the body in a matching dusky pink silk-crepe with the sleeves and upper shoulders left unlined. There are no fastenings on this dress and it simply slips over the head to wear. In excellent vintage condition with no faults of any note - looks unworn save for a tiny hole in the internal lining near to the designer label. This of course cannot be seen when worn. Labelled a vintage UK size 8, we believe this would also suit sizes smaller and US sizes 2-4.
