1970s Karl Lagerfield for Chloe Black Victoriana Silk Lace Skirt

This late 1970s to early 1980s black silk taffeta 'Victoriana' skirt is by Chloe and made to almost couture standards. Throughout the fashion House's history, Chloe has always subscribed to fabulous attention to detail and quality fabrics; none more so than when Mr Lagerfeld was creative director - not once but twice. An immense but virtually unknown talent when he joined the founder, Gaby Aghion, in 1964, he left to revive the then faded House of Chanel nearly 20 years later in 1983. He returned in 1992 and remained until 1997 when the young Stella McCartney, not long after graduating from Central Saint Martins, took over the helm.
This romantic of skirts has a gathered, elasticated waistband and fastens at the side with a simple French hook and eye closure. The skirt is trimmed at the hem with two rows of gathered lace and parellel's the work of Lagerfeld's great rival, Yves Saint Laurent, from around the same time. He also worked extensively with silk taffeta during the 70s and 80s.
The condition is absolutely fabulous with no faults of any note - it looks barely worn. The silk has really retained its softness and lustre and the design is as sublime and beautiful as the day it was made. It would best fit sizes 6-10 UK, or 2-6 US, as there is some stretch to the waistband, as well as some movement in the hook closure which can be adjusted if necessary.
