1970s Paul-Louis Orrier Couture Multicoloured Sequinned Maxi Dress
Description
This striking 1970s maxi dress was designed by French couturier Paul-Louis Orrier. The designer’s cutting edge designs rose to prominence during the 1970s and 1980s when he dressed European royalty and celebrities such as Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and Liza Minnelli.
The sheer chiffon silk is printed with a blown-up abstract pattern that hints at florals and geometric shapes. The colours are bold; tangerine, emerald green, cobalt blue and violet are grounded by black and chocolate brown. The petals of the floral shapes are hand-embroidered with large iridescent sequins in coordinating hues. The top and rear are a cut to a high-neck style, threaded with a piece of matching chiffon which ties above the left shoulder. The waist is gathered and the swirling skirt falls with a few subtle pleats to the ankle. The dress is lined with a chocolate brown satin slip. It fastens under the left arm with a hidden brown zip and hook-and-eye clasp.
This event dress is designed to turn heads and is superbly made. In excellent vintage condition with no issues. There are no composition or size labels present so please check our measurements below. The fabric has no stretch and we estimate a good fit for sizes up to a UK 10 or US 6.
