Description

This 1990s white mini-dress was made in France by Thierry Mugler and after much research we are attributing to the S/S 1996 collection. Mugler would design different 'hardware' each season, especially buttons and belt buckles, and these irregular 3-sided polygon designs were featured on several of the runway looks. Commercial collections often incorporated runway looks but made them more wearable; we have selected a few of the designs which closely much this dress.

The dress is tailored from white pique cotton with the pebble-grain texture usually found on leather. It has two wide straps in the same fabric. It has a nipped-in waist and cocooning sarong type skirt which is finished with two oversized patch pockets. The front of the top of the dress has an off-centre fastening that closes with seven hidden silver-tone metal snap closures. A futuristic silver-tone brooch sits above the top snap closure. At the waist, there is a wide belt which closes with a chunky, sculptural silver-tone buckle. The top of the dress is lined in white satin. The skirt is unlined.

Made in France, this piece is in truly excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. We have cleaned the 100% cotton fabric to perfect white. Labelled a vintage French size 40, Mugler runs very small by todays standards and the dress has no stretch. We believe it would best fit a size UK 8, US 4 on account of the small waist.
