Description

This incredible silk skirt sashayed down the runway on Cindy Crawford as part of Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 1993 collection. Vogue wrote of the show, “Dolce & Gabbana’s happy potpourri of influences was similarly eclectic but had roots in Europe and touched on high art and rustic traditions. And it spoke to nostalgic and escapist longings.” Made in Italy, it is tailored from an incredibly intricate patchwork of fabrics - including lace, silk and chiffon - in clashing patterns and textures. Romantic, with more than a hint of hippy-ness, it has a high-waist cut and wide patchwork waistband which gives way to a tulip shaped silhouette. The cascading, weighty fabric and cerebral cut shows off Dolce & Gabbana’s tailoring know-how - this is a skirt built for movement. The waistband fastens at the back with two black plastic buttons and a hidden zip. It is lined with black crepe.

This piece is in excellent archival vintage condition; we noted some very skillfully executed repairs to the very bottom of the patchwork hem which could never be seen when worn. Made from 100% silk and labelled an Italian 40, UK 8 or US 4, but vintage sizes vary so please check our measurements closely below. This piece has no stretch to it.
