2021 Giambattista Valli Runway Floral Embroidered Tulle Maxi Dress

As seen on the runway, this gown is look number 56 of 60 in Giambattista Valli’s Fall 2021 collection. Valli took inspiration from the culture clash between his home city of Paris and his native Rome. This clash was epitomised by the behaviour of one woman in particular, Pauline Bonaparte Borghese, Napoleon’s sister who married a Roman aristocrat and whose liberated French behaviour shocked the city of Rome. Gowns in the Fall collection combine Italian opulence with French confidence. Taking their lead from the brand’s couture tendencies - high-octane ruffles and florals across dramatic silhouettes - these ready-to-wear designs remain playful and inherently wearable.

This dress is archetypical of Giambattista Valli. Intricate botanical motifs are embroidered across pale tulle; shimmering violet and lilac flowers bloom from buds as vines climb the body. A waterfall cape encircles the shoulders, flying out as the wearer walks, and is topped by a high, ruffled neckline. A flat bow in black matt satin anchors the piece at the waist, contrasting the voluminous tailoring. This romantic, full-length gown is lined with a soft slip in ivory silk and is secured with a zip at the back of the neck. Please note the label appears to have a black mark but no marks are present on the dress. Labelled an Italian 40 and a best fit for a UK 8-10 or US 4-6. Our model (5ft 4in / 163 cm) is a UK 6-8, this dress was roomy on her.
