1980s Wim Hemmink Fuchsia One-Shoulder Dress with Wrap-Around Sleeve
Description
Wim Hemmink was a fashion and costume designer from the Netherlands who designed his playful occasion wear in London. This flamboyant and unusual 1980s one-shoulder dress with shrug is tailored from a vibrant fuchsia silk with a raised, polka-dot texture. The fabric holds its bouncy shape and makes an eye-catching ensemble for any event. Cut to an ankle-grazing length, it has a bodice-hugging top with a rounded neckline, and a skirt that is tailored to a pencil style with a sensuous slit at the rear to allow ease of movement. This gown offers a canny, adaptable wear; cut with one long sleeve, the accompanying shrug features the other sleeve, wrapping around the body of the wearer in the style of a ballet cover-up. The cuffs of both sleeves feature pretty buttons that fasten through fabric loops. The dress is lined in fuchsia satin. It fastens under the arm with a hidden tonal zip.
In very good to excellent vintage condition with only very minor wear noted and no issues. It is labelled 100% Silk and size UK 12, though this is tiny compared to modern sizing and is only suitable for UK size 8, US4 and below. The fabric has no stretch and of note, it would be possible to wear the shrug separately if desired.
