Description

This antique silk and lace wedding dress was fashioned by hand circa 1908-1910 and is in rare, wearable condition. Of note, the design and fabrics are entirely original and our restoration at Circa has been very minimal. The dress is made from high grade mulberry woven silk, with just past the elbow length sleeves, a nipped in waist and draped skirt which falls to the ankle. There is an elegant, attached Watteau train to the reverse. Tonal lace in a repeat floral pattern frames the silhouette either side of the sash waistband, trims the sleeves, is appliqued on the shoulders, below the bust, and the centre back. The neckline and low-back are detailed with tonal silk tulle for modesty. The tulle is trimmed with delicate circles of lace at the neck and top of the back. The dress is not lined and fastens at the back with hidden hook-and-eyes.

Increasingly rare to market, we consider this wedding dress to be in outstanding antique condition. She presents beautifully and is wearable with care. The silk has the odd small or faint age related mark here and there but nothing you would notice when wearing. Very faint halos in the underarm area and some barely noticeable grazing to the silk. The dress is unlabelled but this is a high quality dressmakers piece from a fine establishment of the day. Our model's sizes are: Bust: 34" (87cm), Waist: 24" (61cm), Hips: 34" (86cm) and Height: 5' 4" (164cm) and she's a small size UK 6, US 0-2. This fit her beautifully with a little room to spare.
