1950s Japanese Novelty Print Design Dress
Description
This is an original 1950s or early 1960s cotton dress with a very desirable novelty painterly scenic print showcasing a Japanese couple in traditional dress; Japanese fans and umbrellas; flora and fauna; and pagodas. The colour palette is lovely pale greens to dark greens, pale to blush pinks and pale to inky blues. With a fitted bodice leading to a flared skirt the dress is set off beautifully with a sailor style tie collar. It fastens to the side with an original metal zip. Condition wise, this dress is in excellent vintage condition with the print still fresh in terms of the motifs as well as colours. Unlabeled but very well made by a skilled dressmaker, we think this dress will best fit a UK 10, US 6. It would be a perfect dress for Goodwood Revival and could be worn with a petticoat underneath to give the skirt a fuller silhouette. Our model is a UK 6-8 and 5ft 4in. (163cm), this dress was a great fit on her.
