Description

This crimson red maxi dress is an early design by Singaporean fashion designer, Benny Ong, for London label Perlei’s highly collectable 1970s line Mushroom. Ong’s private clients for his eponymous label have included Princess Diana, the Duchess of Kent and Queen Noor of Jordan. This event-worthy dress is tailored to cascade in ruffled, red manmade chiffon layers to the floor. The top is cut in a halter-style which is adorned with ruffles the whole way around the body. The body of the dress is double-layered with the long bottom layer and shorter top layer swirling around the wearer and echoing their movement - a fantastic dress to dance in that hints at traditional flamenco styles. The dress fastens at the back with a tonal red zip and hook-and-eye clasp.

The original label has a 'trippy mushroom' design which has been remembered by fashion collectors over the years. There is no composition or size label so please check our measurements for fit; we estimate this dress will best suit sizes between UK 8-12 or US 4-8 with a smaller bust. There is no stretch to the fabric. In excellent vintage condition with no flaws or marks noted. Our model is a UK 6-8 and 5ft 4in (163cm) and this dress fit her well. We haven't, but tape could be applied to the bust to provide more secure coverage.
