1980s John Charles Red Gold Lame Maxi Dress with Ruched Waist
Description
This is a great example of 1980s evening wear by John Charles. Founded by designer Cherry Price in 1958, the brand became known for its OTT party dresses and occasion wear throughout the 1970s and 1980s. True to form, this dress is tailored from high-octane red jersey detailed with flecks of gold lamé. The front is generously cut from swathes of fabric, with a slash-neck and sleeveless silhouette. The fabric at the front gives way to a sensuously low-cut back finished with a cape-like panel of fabric. The waistband is wide and ruched, cinching the flowing fabric. The skirt is cut straight and falls to the ankle, broken only by a slit at the back. The dress is lined in matte red jersey. It fastens at the centre back with a hidden tonal zip.
This dress is in excellent vintage condition with no issues. Labelled a vintage UK size 12 but vintage sizes vary hugely so please check the below measurements. Our model's sizes are: Bust: 34" (87cm), Waist: 24" (61cm), Hips: 34.5" (88cm) and Height: 5' 7" (170cm). She's a size UK 6, US 2 and this was a bit big on her; a great fit for a UK 10 or US 6 in our opinion.
