Mexicana was a boutique in Sloane Street set up by Mexican Alfredo Bouret, a celebrated fashion illustrator of his day who, having illustrated designs for Balmain, Balenciaga, and Chanel, had a highly successful career at Vogue. In the 1960s he opened Mexicana, to sell clothes he designed himself to celebrate the art and culture of his native Mexico. It was an instant success due to the gorgeous designs, which chimed with contemporary audiences, and the high standards of workmanship.
