1960s Apricot Cotton Dress and Pastel Floral Jacket

This summery early 1960s two-piece ensemble is composed of a shift-dress and the long-sleeve jacket which sits over it. It is of excellent manufactured quality and most likely made for a good American department store although it has lost its labels with the passage of time.

The dress is tailored from a pale apricot brocade detailed all-over with delicate, tonal lines and leaves. Cut to a shift-style with a nipped in waist and knee-length skirt. The skirt has two soft pleats at the front and at the rear. The boat neckline is rounded and detailed with a wide, curved collar. The dress fastens at the rear with a hidden zip and hook-and-eye clasp. It is unlined. The jacket is tailored from the same fabric which has been dramatically printed with vibrant florals in bright pink, yellow, violet and blue-grey. It has a curved neckline which allows the collar of the dress underneath to be seen. It has a cropped, cocooning cut which stops at the waist. The sleeves are cut to an elegant, slightly cropped length as it was the fashion to wear gloves and display the era's dazzling jewellery designs. Three large buttons secure the front, detailed with coordinating floral-printed brocade. The jacket is lined in cream cotton.

This ensemble is in excellent vintage condition and is very fresh looking. It has no size or composition label so please check the measurements below carefully as the fabric has no stretch. We estimate a best fit for sizes UK 8-10 or US 4-6.
