1940s Haute Couture Purple Satin Chiffon Dress
Description
Original late 1930s or early 1940s purple satin and chiffon gown with matching waist sash. This beautiful unlaballed haute couture dress is of superb quality and construction and is in absolutely incredible vintage condition. The skirt finish is something to behold with individual satin ribbons applied at extremely regular intervals across a silk crepe skirt. The dress has a princess neckline darting at the waist and with superb puff sleeves. The dress is lined in matching silk, with a grosgrain waistband and fastens at the back with a large number of hook and eye fastenings. The dress also has poppers to access the back of the skirt. We don't doubt that the origin of this dress is either French or British and is entirely hand-stitched in keeping with haute couture tradition. Everything about this dress exudes quality. It would make a fantastic alternative bridal gown. There are no faults with this dress which is remarkable given its age. It would best fit up to a UK size 10-12 or US 6 -8. Our model is a UK 8-10 and is 5ft 11in (180cm), this was a little roomy on her.
