Description

This incredible 1970s abstract-print silk, empire-line dress was designed by iconic British designer Hardy Amies in the 1970s. It is in wonderful vintage condition. It features a full-length, tightly pleated skirt, sailor collar and V-neckline with woven ribbon detail. Best renowned for his appointment in 1955 to HRH Queen Elizabeth II as Royal Dressmaker, Aimes created pieces for many public figures and the quality of his work is undeniably reflected in this remarkable piece. It is fully lined and fastens at the back with a zip. The deep plunging V-neckline has a modesty panel comprised of latticed ribbon work in sugar pink, sky blue and olive green which consolidates at the centre bust in a bow feature and lengths of ribbon that cascade down the front of the dress, creating a bohemian aesthetic. There is a matching ribbon trim on the sailor style collar. The abstract floral print in bold pink, blue and yellow shades is tempered beautifully by softer olive tones to echo the ribbon detail.

This piece is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws. Due to its age, there is no composition label. Would best suit a taller figure in a US size 4-6, UK 8-10. The fabric has no stretch.
