Description
This documented Jacques Fath black cocktail jacket is from the Fall/Winter Ready-to-Wear Collection of 1998. It has wide pointed lapels and is cut from a thick woven black faille silk, with horizontal lace and ribbon panels. The shoulders, mid section and hem are all made up of a fine baroque style lace, joined to the jacket with a lovely ribbon seam which helps to create contrast and texture. The jacket closes with three concealed popper fastenings on the underside, with the front adorned with a beautiful black gem set floral brooch mount. The jacket is lined and has turn back pointed cuffs at the end of each sleeve for a more structured feel. The piece is in wonderful condition, with no noticeable flaws or marks. It would best fit a size 10-12 UK, or 6-8 US.

Notes on Designer:

Jacques Fath was a French fashion designer who was considered one of the three dominant influences on postwar haute couture, the others being Christian Dior and Pierre Balmain. A self-taught designer who learned his craft from studying museum exhibitions and books about fashion, Fath hired a number of young designers as assistants and apprentices, some of which later went on to form their own houses, including Hubert de Givenchy, Guy Laroche, and Valentino Garavani. His clients included Ava Gardner, Greta Garbo, and Rita Hayworth, who wore a Fath dress for her wedding to Prince Aly Khan.
