1990s Roots Navy and Blue Sequin Long-Sleeve Maxi-Dress
Description
This late 1980s to early 1990s glittering sequinned maxi dress in navy blue is by the famous London boutique Roots. Sadly the boutique, which was located in fashionable Chelsea on the Kings Road, closed its doors sometime in the mid-1990s. It is comprised of a navy blue sheer crepe fabric and detailed with elaborate beadwork. Rows of iridescent sequins form horizontal stripes the length of the body and sleeves, broken up by organic shapes in lighter blue sequins. The sequin work gives the appearance of vines growing up the body. The long sleeves are sheer and the cuffs are finished with rows of iridescent bugle beads, as is the rounded collar and ankle-length bottom hem. The skirt is broken up by a dramatic split at the rear. The dress fastens with a hidden tonal zip and hook-and-eye clasp at the back of the neck. The body of the dress is lined in blue satin but the sleeves are unlined and remain sheer.
Superbly made in quality fabrics and finishes, the dress is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. It has no composition label and is labelled a UK 10 or US 6; the fabric has no stretch.
