1960s Lancetti Haute Couture Gold Silk and Lurex Beaded Dress Suit
Description
This haute couture dress suit was created in the 1960s by Italian 'Alta Moda' label Lancetti. Founded in 1961, Pino Lancetti earned the nickname “tailor painter” for his collections inspired by renowned painters, creating clothes for Royal Princesses and the Italian glitterati during the 1960s and 1970s. Notable clients included Princess Soraya of Iran, Queen Paola of Belgium and Salima Aga Khan.
The slip dress is cut from silk chiffon, lined in Habotai silk and the cocooning jacket is tailored the same length. Labelled inside the slip, it reads “LANCETTI ROMA”. The hand-crafted details of the jacket lend it an artistic quality, with delicate beadwork and sequins forming floral motifs across a wave-stitched web of metallic thread. A single hook-and-eye clasp secures the jacket at the neck. This couture piece is in very good to excellent vintage condition; there are some miniscule pinholes on the front of the slip and some very well executed repairs to the chiffon and organza fabric of the jacket. We could only see these when the ensemble was in hand as they are undetectable when worn. The slip is a best fit for a UK size 8, US 4 although the jacket, which is oversized would fit sizes bigger. Our model is a UK 6-8 and 5ft 4 / 163 cm, the slip dress was a little roomy on her.
