Description

This wonderfully versatile jabot / ruffled collar dates back to the 19th century - we believe it was hand made in the late 1890s to 1900 and it is very fine quality. Designed to be worn on the front of a shirt or as an ornamental ruffle, it is crafted from inky black silk with a frilled silhouette. The seams are detailed with loops of cream wool thread, cinched with black thread to create pretty scalloped hems along the edge of each flounce. Two ears of black silk - again, trimmed with scalloped detailing - are attached to each end, allowing the wearer to easily secure this piece around the neck. The ears are attached to the ruffle with black thread, hidden by a loop of scallop-edged black silk.

This piece is in truly excellent antique condition with no issues of any note. It's hard to believe it is as old as it is because the silk is so sturdy and wearable for close to 130 years of age! Due to the way it ties, it has an adjustable fit.
