Description

This 1930s jacket has a superb print and the velvet fabric is of painterly florals in an assortment of rich jewel tones set against an inky black background. The sleeves are cut to a bell-shape with the fabric gathering at the shoulders and the cuffs. They are unlined and the cuffs are finished with a single black glass faceted button. The jacket is cut to a loose style that makes it highly wearable for layering over day or evening attire. The body is lined in a black crepe. The front overlaps and fastens at the bottom with a singular popper.  It has an unusual panelled hemline.

The jacket is in good vintage condition and the velvet is perfect so it presents very well. At some point in its life, probably fairly early on, it was made bigger in the shoulders with discreet panels added.  It has been very skillfully done; I only noticed as the lining, as it could not be seen when worn, was not adjusted to match.  Its possible that other adjustments were made to the hemline but I rather like the  avant-garde look this jacket has; its strikingly contemporary.  There are no labels present so please check the measurements closely as the fabric has no stretch.  It could fit a variety of sizes if you prefer an oversized look and the bust is generous.  Our seamstress loved the fit over a chunky jumper and she wears a UK 6-8 or US 2-4.  I've also worn this and I'm a size UK 14 or US 10.
