1940s Haute Couture Blue Moiré Silk Halter-Neck Maxi Gown
Description
This incredible couture made gown was designed in the 1940s but alas, the dress has lost its labels. Tailored from the most beautiful thick moiré silk in indigo blue, it is cut to a halter-neck style with a sensuous low-back. Elaborate petal detailing trims the back below the cut-out, adding bustle-like volume at the rear. The skirt is A-line and holds its shape well due to the quality of the fabric, cut with generous swathes and constructed to swirl around the wearer. The bust of the gown is hand-detailed and unusual; gently curved petals overlay the breast and are adorned with tiny clear and white beads and circular prong-set rhinestones. A wide diamond waistband is detailed with coordinating elaborate embellishment, adding stunning eye-catching detail to the centre of the dress. The dress fastens under the left arm with a hidden metal zip which we have replaced like for like. I'm pretty sure this was also a later replacement. The dress is unlined.
In superb vintage condition with no issues and very wearable. There is no doubt in my mind that this came from a very fine British or French Couturier of note. Please double-check our measurements below as the fabric has no stretch. This will fit sizes UK 6-8 or US 2-4 best with some flexibility in the hip area.
