Description

The fabric of this early 1950s floral jersey dress suit is resplendent with splashy, smudged shades of mustard, cobalt blue, mauve, black and white. The dress is tailored to a short-sleeve, tea style with princess seams and intricate pleating to the front of the hips. It has a sweeping sailor collar that gives way to pleating at the front of the dress above the bust and a squared-off neckline. The skirt section is lined with a dark brown satin slip and the dress closes at the back with a hidden silver-toned zip.

The coordinating jacket is tailored to a flattering fit-and-flare style. The neckline is collarless, adorned with a large bow and is squared but cut lower than the dress to reveal it underneath. The sleeves are slightly cropped and the cuffs rolled up whilst the front of the jacket has two patch pockets and closes with a large pearlescent curved black button. The jacket is unlined.

Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. The fabric has no stretch and although the ensemble is unlabelled, it is very well manufactured and most likely from the United States. We suggest it will fit sizes up to a UK 10 or US 6.
