Description

This original 1950s silk skirt suit is by royal couturier Hardy Amies, one of the best known names in British society fashion during the 50s and 60s. In a wonderful bright blue colour, the fabric showcases a scrolling floral repeat pattern that looks like poppies or carnations. The silk garments are both cotton lined and have a fully fashioned separate navy acetate lining with the Hardy Amis signature giving both pieces a beautiful quality and weight to them. The skirt is a classic pencil cut design with a unusual double zip fastening to either side. The waistband fastens either side too with a double set of hook and eyes. The jacket is a shorter length with three large fabric covered buttons and is neatly shaped and darted at the waistline. The sleeve cuffs can be turned up or left down as desired. The jacket is consolidated with a neat stitched bow on the left hand side. Both items are in excellent vintage condition with only very gentle signs of wear. The raw silk fabric retains its lustre. This looks to be a bespoke or couture as this set has the Hardy Amies couture label. Both of these pieces could be worn as separates and this has such a range of use from racing events to wedding guest to the Goodwood Revival. This will best fit a UK 12-14, US 8-10.
