1950s Hattie Carnegie Iridescent Pink & Blue Butterfly Brooch Pair
Description
A late 1950s to early 1960s matched pair of large, charming brooches by renowned American designer Hattie Carnegie, each taking the shape of a butterfly with large iridescent stones. Each brooch showcases a magical combination of blues, greens and pinks aurora borealis and 'dragon egg' textured finish rhinestones. The blue and pink rhinestones form the outline of each of the butterfly motifs respectively, highlighting the wings, head and antennae.
Both are in excellent vintage condition with no issues of any note – no stone replacements detected. Good designer brooches from this period are getting harder to find and many are squirreled away in private collections for decades. Please note only the pink hued brooch is signed Hattie Carnegie on the back; costume jewellery designers from this period often neglected to sign their work with Gabrielle Chanel being the most famous example – she never signed her jewellery!
Each brooch measures 2.5" x 2" or 6.4 cm x 5 cm.
