Description

This enchanting 1960s peach silk crepe couture evening gown with beaded bodice is a beautifully elegant piece that we attribute to either Hardy Amies or Norman Hartnell.
I have handled dozens of couture pieces of both designers over the years and this is exceptional unmatched British couture; both British designers were appointed as Royal dressmakers by Queen Elizabeth II during the 1950s. This beautiful dress has all of the hallmarks of a Royal commission with its modest, elegant line, boat neckline and pretty capped sleeves. The peach silk crepe is wonderfully soft and the bodice is intricately embellished with crystal toned oval beads in floral clusters amidst a delicate web of silver rocaille beadwork. There is a neatly synched waistband defined with a piped band of matching fabric that presents like a dainty belt. The straight floor length skirt is tailored and features two sweeping trains of fabric at the reverse. The interior is fully lined in matching peach and there is a concealed zip fastening at the centre reverse. This charming piece is in excellent vintage condition and would best suit a US size 6-8, UK size 10-12.
