1960s British Couture Black Silk Velvet Polka Dot Maxi Dress

This 1960s British couture maxi dress is tailored from a sheer black chiffon smothered in black velvet polka dots with a fluffy, raised texture. It is sleeveless with an elegant wide slash neckline at the front. It is lined with a pale pink-grey silk slip which starts at the bust, allowing the decolletage to peek through the unlined mesh above. The dress falls with an empire-line cut, cinched at the waist by a wide black velvet waistband that drops to sit across the lower back at the rear where it is finished with a large flat velvet bow. The dress has a keyhole cut-out at the rear and fastens with a hidden zip, hook-and-eye clasps, and multiple snap closures underneath the bow. The skirt falls straight at the front and is finished with some soft pleating at the rear to allow ease of movement. It falls to the ankle and is finished with a sumptuous, double-thickness black silk velvet band at the bottom hem.

This couture piece is in excellent vintage condition with no issues of any note. Unlabelled - there is no composition or size label. This dress will best fit up to a size UK 8-10, US 4-6.
