Description

This tactile gold minaudiere clutch bag was retailed by Goubaud de Paris, a luxury perfume and beauty salon on Fifth Avenue, New York. The beauty salon opened in the 1930s and from the 1950s, successfully retailed perfume, jewellery and accessories to its high society clientele. The business closed in the early 1970s.

This bag is most likely from the 1960s and crafted from gold-toned metal with a debossed and engraved checked pattern. It has a curved 'teardrop' shaped body and a hinged flap closure which has an elegant scalloped edge. Inside this flap is a handy half-moon mirror. The bag has a single compartment and is lined with black flocked velvet. It is labelled “Goubaud de Paris - Fifth Avenue New York” in gold font on black cloth; also stamped "Rich Jewel" who evidently manufactured this piece in Japan.

In excellent vintage condition with just the slightest wear noted where it would be held - you can only see it if looking very intently for a difference in the shades of gold. Please check our measurements below as this won't fit the largest of mobile phones.
