Description
This is one of the earliest designs we have seen by the husband-and-wife team David and Marion Donaldson. They founded their fashion label in Glasgow in 1966 and rose to eminence throughout the 60s and 70s in tandem with other fashionable British labels such as Biba and Laura Ashley. The company created desirable pieces in a host of innovative Liberty designed prints and were one of the first brands to openly collaborate with other designer brands such as Heals and Harris Tweed. The bodice is a crepe wool teal colour and has navy crocheted flowers on the front panelling with a high neck collar. The sleeves are made from a thick cotton with a stylised paisley design in blues, greens, purples and turquoises coordinating very well with the bodice. The design of the sleeves is echoed in the full length skirt with its ruffle hem that is embellished further with the same navy crocheted ribbon. The sleeves have elasticated cuffs. There is a simple tie belt in teal to consolidate the look and draw in the waist as desired. The dress does up at the back with the original metal zip. It is in really excellent condition and we see no faults of any note or stains. It will best fit a UK 6, US 0-2 as it is slim fitting.
