Description

This elegant dress was designed by Yuki for British store Rembrandt during the 1970s. Made in the UK, it is crafted from a high quality crepe cloth in a rich cream hue. This dress celebrates Yuki’s canny tailoring; his signature cut was to craft panels of full circles which were then draped. This was to create maximum fullness with no seams, and his designs - like this one - often formed flamboyant batwing sleeves which were cinched by gathered waists. This midi-gown has a pleated, ruffled collar and has an off-centre fastening at the bust, secured with snap closures, which gives way to a soft pleat down the front. The pleating at the collar is echoed at the cuffs, adding decadent detail. This dress is fully lined in cream satin.

Yuki was the design name of Gnyuki Torimaru, graduating from the London College of Fashion he was renowned during the 1970s for his fluid draped jersey dresses. He notably worked for Norman Hartnell, Pierre Cardin and Louis Feraud.

The dress is in very good vintage condition with no flaws of any note. If we are being picky, the pleating on the ruffles has flattened with age and dry cleaning in places but its not something you's notice when wearing. It is labelled a size UK 12 but probably better suited to a UK 10 or US 6. The fabric has no stretch.
