Description

This is an extremely rare piece of early Pierre Cardin couture. Crafted for the French fashion house's Spring 1971 collection, we were lucky enough to find these editorial shots from that year which showcase the ensemble beautifully. Pierre Cardin was a true renaissance man whose empire spanned fashion, furniture and beverages. Beloved by fashion fanatics for his futuristic, avant-garde designs, this two-piece set plays to the designer’s strengths. Composed of a sleeveless tunic dress and high-waisted shorts, it is crafted from vibrant pistachio green linen. The tunic is detailed with white piping around the hems and across its single patch pocket. It has a slit on the left hand side which runs the length of the body, from bottom hem to under the arm, and is secured with chunky green spherical buttons and fabric loops. The dress is lined with tonal green satin. The shorts are cut to a very mini length and are detailed with white piping around the legs. They fasten with a hidden zip at the rear and are unlined. The ensemble's label reads “Creation Pierre Cardin Paris”.

Both pieces are in excellent archival vintage condition and display very well - no issues to report. The fabric has no stretch and there are no size or composition labels. We believe these pieces would best fit a size UK 6-8, US 2-4. Our model's sizes are: Bust: 33" (84cm), Waist: 26" (66cm), Hips: 34" (86cm) and Height: 5' 7" (170cm). She's a size UK 6, US 2 and there was room to spare.
