1980s Dior Attributed Haute Couture Black Velvet Dress

Bought alongside other labelled Dior haute couture pieces, we believe this elegant black velvet gown to also be a Christian Dior haute couture dress from the 1984 / 1985 fall winter collection. We have attached a runway shot from this presentation showing a very similar designed gown and what appears to be the back of a suit in the same fabric. The dress is wonderfully crafted with many hand-finished details and it showcases the fashion house’s tailoring know-how. A deceptively simple piece that you will wear time and time again, it has a flattering nipped-in waist and fishtail skirt with soft pleats at the rear. Zips at each cuff mean this piece is easy to put on and allow the tight cuffs and contrasting, billowing shoulders to form a dramatic shape. A playful addition which, along with the V-back, set this piece apart.

Cut from sumptuous, thick cotton velvet and lined with black silk, this stunning dress is secured at the back with a hidden tonal zip. Presented in excellent vintage condition with no issues. Unlabelled so please refer closely to the measurements below. We believe it would best fit a UK 6-8, US 2-4.
