1980s Hanae Mori Cotton Floral Midi-Dress
Description
This vibrant floral print dress was designed by Hanae Mori during the 1980s and displays many of the hallmarks of the era’s style. Tailored from crimson cotton printed with blown-up roses in shades of ochre and fuchsia and surrounded by leaves in vibrant teal. The print is off-set by black cotton trim which adorns the rounded neckline, front button placket and wide waistband. Black pearlescent buttons secure the front and waist which is nipped-in. The swirling, pleated skirt adds to the summery, playful feel. It has short, voluminous puff-sleeves which are cuffed with black cotton and fastened with a tonal black button. The fabric retains its vibrancy - a wonderful wear for a summer garden party or wedding. The top of the dress is unlined but the skirt is lined with crimson satin.
Hanae Mori began her career in the Japanese cinema industry in the 1950s and her acclaim as a fashion designer began in 1965 after her collections were shown in the US and came to the attention of the owner of Neiman Marcus. In 1977 she opened her haute couture house and a boutique in Paris becoming a member of the 'Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture', a rare privilege for a woman and an exceptional one for a foreigner. Her last haute couture collection was 2004 and notable clients were Princess Masako, Hilary Clinton, Nancy Reagan and Princess Grace of Monaco.
Condition is excellent with no issues and the fabric is still very fresh looking. There are no composition or size labels inside and we estimate a best fit for up to a UK 10, US 6 with plenty of room in the hip.
