1989 Documented Valentino Grey Wool Double Breasted Skirt Suit

This elegant Valentino skirt suit is from the fall 1989 collection. The trouser suit version was modelled on the runway by the first Asia supermodel, Anna Bayle. Designed when Valentino Garavani himself was still at the helm of the house, this look epitomises the pristine tailoring that kept clients coming back to his label.

The ensemble consists of a double-breasted jacket and pencil skirt. They are both tailored from a thick grey wool that, up close, is flecked with black, white and grey thread. The jacket is cut to a blouson silhouette. It has no lapels but a high collar that curves around the buttons and down to the bottom hem - no corners, only curves. True to 1980s tastes, there are large shoulder pads and a slight batwing cut to the arms. It fastens at the front with four tonal grey plastic buttons. The skirt is high-waisted and fastens on the left hip with a tonal grey plastic button. Both the jacket and skirt are lined with matte black silk.

This ensemble is in truly excellent vintage condition and looks barely worn with no issues. There is no composition label and it is a vintage size US 10. This is very small by today's sizing and better suited to a modern US 6 or UK 10 on account of the smaller waist measurement. The fabric has no stretch.
