1990s Ralph Lauren Pink Silk Maxi Dress with Crystal Straps
Description
This Y2K Ralph Lauren silk maxi dress is just about the closest design we have ever seen to the brand's custom made gown for Gwyneth Paltrow to attend the 71st Academy Awards where she won the Oscar for Best Actress on 21 March 1999. It is tailored from stunning shot-silk with a slight sheen in a vibrant candy pink hue. It has a flowing A-line cut and is fitted across the bust and waist, giving way to a full skirt that falls to the ankle. The dress is lined in lime green silk-chiffon, flashes of which are revealed as the wearer moves. The straps are threaded with faceted pink semi-precious stone beads, likely pink quartz, which sparkle as they catch the light atop the shoulders. The dress fastens under the left arm with a hidden tonal pink zip. There are spaghetti-thin hanging straps in coordinating lime green chiffon. It has in-seam pockets on the side seams at the hips.
Unusually for the incredible quality of this gown, it has the Ralph Lauren Black Label; however, the finishing and quality of the fabrics is more closely aligned with Ralph Lauren's purple label which was introduced in 1995. Made in the USA, this dress also retains the Unite Union label for the period 1995 - 2004.
An outstanding gown and in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note; it is perfect for a special event. 100% Silk and labelled a size US 6, UK 10, but sizes vary between brands so please check the measurements below closely. The fabric has no stretch.
