1990s Yves Saint Laurent Agate Beaded Necklace with Gold Sun Pendents
Description
This triple strand, late 1980s to early 1990s Yves Saint Laurent necklace was designed by Robert Goossens. The renowned jewellery designer was one of the most famous in all France and worked from 1954 with Coco Chanel, and from 1972 with YSL. In 2002 Yves retired from fashion and Robert retired in 2005 when Chanel bought the Goossens workshop. It is now a Maison's d’art Atelier.
This substantial and weighty necklace is threaded with real reddish-brown polished agate stone beads. The stand-out detailing is the three large sun motifs in gold-toned metal that adorn and intersperse the beaded strands. The large central sun pendant features a brown wooden circle hanging from it, finished with a smaller gold-toned metal sun. The back of this wooden circle is finished with a metal plaque engraved with “Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche” and “Made in France”. The necklace closes with an elaborate gold-toned metal S-clasp that displays the organic metalwork shapes that became a signature of the fashion house.
In excellent vintage condition save for the gold plating to the oval cartouche. This has worn and oxidised but as it is on the back of the pendant, it cannot be seen at all when worn. Made in very limited numbers, this piece is one for the fine costume jewellery collector.
