Description

This documented mini skirt was designed by Azzedine Alaïa as part of his Spring 1994 collection. Two dresses showcasing the same perforated leather fabric and colour palette walked the runway and are currently held by the Foundation Azzedine Alaia. Model Beverly Peele attended the 1994 CFDA Awards in New York with Azzendine Alaïa and wore the maxi-version of this skirt.

Tailored from black suede, it has a high-waist cut and is tailored to a mini skater style. The skirt has a thick waistband which is perforated along the bottom hem, revealing the red suede lining. It is detailed with cut-out holes which form large snowflake like shapes around the hem; the shapes echoed by the scallop hemline. Through these, the detail of the inside can be glimpsed: here, strips of leather in vibrant red, apple green and petrol blue form a layer of fringe that can be seen as the wearer walks. The skirt is lined with black satin. It fastens on the left hip with a hidden tonal black zip and black plastic button. Made in France, this piece is a true archival treasure and worthy of museum acquisition.

In very good vintage condition with the following to note: some of the dye from the black suede has transferred to the red, green and blue fringe - its minor in nature and cannot be noticed when worn. Labelled 100% Velvet Lamb (Suede) with a lining of 100% Acetate. It is a vintage French size 38 but measures very small at the waist and would only fit sizes UK 4-6, US 0-2. The fabric has no stretch.
