Vivienne Westwood black velvet corseted ensemble, as seen in the Fall/Winter 1995 Vive La Cocotte collection - one of the most iconic shows of her career. Staged at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, the show reflected Westwood's interest in 18th century French fashions and culture - an interest which is particularly evident in this velvet set. It features a riding jacket with detachable corseted waist coat, signature orb button fastenings and puff sleeves. The jacket has a beautiful pale pink silk lining, complete with the gold Vivienne Westwood logo label. The inner waistcoat fastens with a central zip and two rows of black and gold orb buttons in a thick, structured velvet, complete with statement collar. The jacket is cropped in a flattering silhouette, with two pleats to the back and velvet trim cuffs. The shoulders are gathered and slightly puffed to create a traditional French riding jacket shape.

Both pieces are in superb vintage condition with no faults whatsoever and have been stored for many years as part of a private collection. Worthy of museum acquisition or one for the collector of very fine, documented vintage clothing. Made in England before manufacturing shifted to Italy towards the end of the decade. Westwood sizing is notoriously small and although labeled a UK 12, this will fit a UK 6 or US 2 and below.
